i just finished the currently available story in subnautica 2. took me a bit over 11 hours. very fun game. you can clearly see that it’s in early access, there’s a lot of content that is in the first game but is not yet implemented in this one. a lot of quality of life improvements are needed, as well as just more content (especially regarding vehicles)
the map is especially big. it’s been a while since i played the first game, so i don’t quite know how it compares. this game’s map is so large though that a lot of my time were just holding ‘w’ towards a beacon in the distance (hopefully they add better vehicles in the future for this issue)
the story is pretty compelling too. obviously it’s not complete yet, and what’s currently there does not tie up the major plot lines, but i can see the vision and am eagerly awaiting the continuation
as for bugs, i only really encountered 5, which is pretty good for a newly released early access game:
- sometimes items will just disappear if dropped close to the surface of the water
- sometimes when driving the vehicle, it’ll just randomly respawn in the docking bay (only happened to me twice, and it was when i was going home anyway)
- some audio was missing subtitles, and it would then repeat the last played audio’s subtitles instead
- sometimes dialog wouldn’t actually play the audio, but the subtitles would advance through the conversation
- the game lost all lighting stopped during a long play session. a simple restart of the game resolved it
