Yes, some fair questions about the opt-out nature of the approach, since most instances enable indexable by default. That's a valid concern and it's really an instance-level decision, not ours. But the heated pushback mostly came from one person.

We built a fully respectful search engine that only relies on #ActivityPub, with instant deletion, updates, and indexing only consenting users. We will likely shut down the service, but the source code will remain available as we believe the approach is ethical. That same indexable setting already lets Google index your posts and keep them cached long after deletion.

Exactly, The big guys don't care about consent and keep deleted content cached for days or weeks. We don't index behind anyone's back, we check multiple criteria before following anyone, and every deletion, edit or block is processed instantly. 100% ActivityPub, playing by the Fediverse rules.

Sorry about that, we'll investigate this quickly. The expected behavior of the "unfollow" command is immediate deletion of all indexed content, with no possibility of re-indexing anything, even if someone we follow boosts one of your posts. In the meantime, blocking @HolosDiscover will guarantee instant and complete removal.

Being fully ActivityPub-native means every deletion, edit or block is processed instantly. Only public posts from consenting users are indexed. We respect every signal available.
This raised concerns, and that's fair. It may have highlighted misunderstood default settings. We're ready to shut it down if the community feels it's not welcome.
