generative so-called "AI" is now being used to transcribe and translate Latin manuscripts. -

With the news of the secret $100 million investment in Bluesky by Bain, I keep thinking about protocols.@_elena The perceived weaknesses about the inter-connectivity is definitely strengths.
Fx. it's much harder for bots to infect your timeline and get reach on here. So it's less attractive to set them up.
I have no doubt that VCs are interested in keeping Bsky up for easy training fooder through the pipeline.
I wrote something similar 2 months ago on Bsky.

Europe champions digital freedom and its open source community.RE: https://mastodon.social/@Tutanota/116277691327823258
@EUCommission It's funny how this appeared right below this @Tutanota post about how there's people in the EU who are trying to force mass surveillance. Not very open at all.

I just googled something and Google put its AI summary top, which incorrectly used a Facebook post - misinterpreting it.@GossiTheDog I think you'd get a "hoot" out of Louis Rossman's videos on how using Google Gemini to entirely rewrite his website made it show up ast #1 on Google Search when he hadn't been able to get his own human written one on there for close to a year. 🫠
-
🇪🇺 Unity is our greatest strength.@EUCommission Then please don't hollow out the GDPR for US big tech. Focus on energy sovereignty aka green energy and please dial down the AI hype and implementations that hasn't been vigorously tested and passed trusted human review.
Also, stop trying to make mass surveillance a thing. Make preventive measures, not invasive ones.

Can you imagine Mastodon raising 100 MILLION dollars from a crypto VC fund and failing to disclose it... for a full year?@erikcats I believe facpalming should be a standard response to what's been happening with this tech for the past couple of years.

Can you imagine Mastodon raising 100 MILLION dollars from a crypto VC fund and failing to disclose it... for a full year?@erikcats Haha that was my intend.
You'll probably laugh watching this as well.
TLDW; Video goes over how OpenAI has had to hire a projectlead who is now raising alarm about all of their unfinished projects going nowhere other than wasting money and resources.

For CONTRIBUTING.md.@caolan Haha, sorry. I should have added:
I like your drawing and appreciate it and your message so much more in my timeline than polished excretions with basis in mass thievery and synthetic distilation of human creators hard work.
TLDR; It's lovely, thank you for sharing.

Can you imagine Mastodon raising 100 MILLION dollars from a crypto VC fund and failing to disclose it... for a full year?@_elena And this is how I find out that he's on their board.
Even if Bsky themselves and some of their staff actions didn't raise alarms from the get go for me. The fact that they are located in the US under current administration and the lack of autonomy does.
I'm happy I finally took the plunge and made them my back up social media and Mastodon my primary. I like some of the utility over there, but it's already doing the spiral I watched Twitter doing before leaving there.

For CONTRIBUTING.md.@caolan They are expression of who you are and what you wanted to do in the moment you made them. The result may or may not impress others, but at least it's honest.

Starting to think the real risk is not AI replacing junior staff, but senior staff quitting because they just can’t take this AI bullshit any longer and just opt for early retirement.@jschauma @prietschka I'm sure you have some insight on this.

😵 🤯 Last year a #Meta Lobbyist became a new head of the #Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC).@maxschrems It’s close to being the same situation in England. I wonder how many more places it might be. EU is not immune to corporate capture and people need to start waking up realising that our protections and rights are being chipped away at.

"If you want to improve the model's output, you can write skill files with more specific instructions!"@johnnyvibrant I was thinking this exact thing.
"Remember when the program/compiler/shell just actually did what your file told it to? What a trip that was!"

Where do the #lowtech and #NeoLuddites hang out?@jpoesen as it turns out. On Mastodon. After using mastodon more actively for the past couple of days I tripped over what I've been unable to find for years on the other social media platforms.
A local volunteer group effort to help people get away from big tech.

Dear Fedi friends,@davidrevoy Been a fan since I first saw your beautiful illustrations on @Framasoft years back and your comic contributions and words in the fight against Loud Literal Machines TM has made me smile so much.
Thank you, David!

Dear Fedi friends,@onepunchmango I'm aware of what the EFF do. I'm not saying they don't do a lot of good. However, they are not against LLMs and up until recently they were positive about its usage. Even though the technology inherently relies on voiding people's privacy. For the longest time they cheered on it as a way to beat Copyright and boost free information, ignoring people who tried to explain why it would be damaging.

Dear Fedi friends,@onepunchmango EFF is not against LLMs.
Removed the pluralistic part.
