Roma, 24 mar. (askanews) - Per il presidente tedesco Frank-Walter Steinmeier la fiducia tra gli Stati Uniti e i suoi alleati occidentali è "venuta meno", una situazione - ha affermato - che persisterà anche dopo la presidenza di Donald Trump. A questa perdita di fiducia si aggiunge l'incomprensione che circonda l'avvio della guerra contro l'Iran, che, ha denunciato, è "contraria al diritto internazionale".
"Perché questa guerra è, a mio avviso, contraria al diritto internazionale. Non c'è dubbio che, in ogni caso, la giustificazione basata su un attacco imminente contro gli Stati Uniti non regga. Questo appare riconosciuto anche all'interno di alcuni servizi americani", ha affermato.
"La nostra politica estera non risulterà più convincente se non chiamiamo una violazione del diritto internazionale come tale. Abbiamo già dovuto affrontare questo problema durante la guerra a Gaza, e dobbiamo affrontarlo anche nella guerra in Iran", ha aggiunto.
"Questa guerra è anche, se posso dirlo come chi è direttamente coinvolto, un errore politico con gravi conseguenze. È questo che è più frustrante: una guerra davvero evitabile e inutile, se il suo obiettivo era effettivamente quello di impedire all'Iran di avanzare sulla strada verso la bomba atomica", ha aggiunto.

Rome, March 24 (askanews) - For German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, trust between the United States and its Western allies has “disappeared,” a situation – he stated – that will persist even after the presidency of Donald Trump. This loss of trust is compounded by the misunderstanding surrounding the start of the war against Iran, which he denounced as “contrary to international law.”
“Because this war, in my opinion, is contrary to international law. There is no doubt that, in any case, the justification based on an imminent attack against the United States does not hold. This is even recognized within some American intelligence agencies,” he stated.
“Our foreign policy will no longer be credible if we do not call a violation of international law what it is. We have already had to deal with this problem during the Gaza war, and we must deal with it in the war in Iran,” he added.
“This war is also, if I may say so as someone directly involved, a political error with serious consequences. It is this that is most frustrating: a war truly avoidable and useless, if its objective was actually to prevent Iran from advancing on the road to the atomic bomb,” he added.
“The fracture is too deep and trust in U.S. grand strategy has disappeared, not only among allies, but, as you can see as much as I can, throughout the world,” he concluded.
