@VoiceofDuum @thepoliticalcat Actually the move off the main sequence will start already in some 2 billion years. After that, when that 'explosion' occurs doesn't really matter. And BTW it won't be an explosion: Sun-sized stars just shed their outer layers as planetary nebulae and collapse into white dwarves. Hard to turn into a good meme.

Yes, because it would enable them to make the biggest profits imaginable, with all the subsidies and the passing on of all risks, including disposal, to the general public. -
