      I definitely want to see AOC run for President. I do worry a bit about timing and the current situation.

      She would make an amazing replacement for Schumer, and having Senator on her track record would make her that much more compelling a Presidential candidate.

      (Of course I say that and then there was Hillary, I do also worry the US is too sexist, but maybe we just haven’t had the right woman yet)

        @bascule Headline surprised me (watching from afar). Looking at the entire list they present, AOC seems *not* so surprising to me. I wish she had more experience though. Fmr mayors and governors will have more heft. She's capable of picking a serious team though. It'll be interesting to watch, though, knowing all the shit she will get, also a bit depressing. Next two years will be stressfull. For me I mean, never mind AOC.
        Edit: fixed error that turned one point totally upside down.

          @bascule i worry about a significant chunk of the voter base being too misogynist/racist for AOC. they latched on to both of those for Kamala, and i can only imagine it will be even worse for AOC

            @CosmicHorror we can look at Kamala and Hillary and conclude America is too misogynist, or we can conclude neither of them gave voters something to be excited about.

            AOC would be a welcome breath of fresh air from the establishment Democrats we've gotten since Obama.

            I do think Fox News, Daily Wire, and the rest of the extreme right media sewer have pretty successfully poisoned the well against her.

            Her tour with Bernie was great but she needs more counterprogramming to combat that propaganda

              @bascule re: right-wing media

              this is my exact fear. a lot of voters opinions boil down to whatever right-wing media is spouting. my in-laws were parroting things totally divorced from reality like "Kamala fucked and sucked her way to the top". i doubt they even consider things like policy 🫠

              that being said it's possible that appealing to anti-establishment would be more than enough to make up for it. it's hard for me to gauge since est. democrats have been fixated on pandering to moderates
