Useful idiots.

Useful idiots. Back in the day, nVidia grabbed the top third of your television screen for showing 'recommendations' with their Shield TV devices. I was absolutely outraged. I bought this device - the nerve of them selling my screenspace and attention like that.
I ranted about it on Reddit but was blown up by the apologists and fanboys.
"They're not ads - they're recommendations"
"I for one love this new feature!"In the last year or so these recommendations started to include things like Tim Horton's and Kia cars.
Now with the latest update it's pretty much the entire screen is nothing but paid promotion after they added a section that promotes Google Play paid content. You have to scroll to the bottom of the page - and the next - before you start getting to the apps you installed.
This is how it works.

Sounds frustrating. -
@zazzoo
Sounds frustrating.@SnowyCA It's particularly frustrating because, from a hardware perspective, they are incredible devices. Mine is maybe 10 years old and still the best thing on the market.
But I think I'll be looking into whether you can flash another OS onto it today.

@zazzoo and now you know why I'll never buy #nvidia crap ever again!
- This shit at least didn't happen to me nor does it work on #Linux!
- Cuz noone here uses " #GeForceExperience " or any other #adware / #bloatware like it.

@SnowyCA Android set top box - so I've got apps installed like Netflix, Gem, etc. But yes, a major use of it for me is streaming games from my PC so I can play them in the family room with an XBox controller instead of being holed up in my dark office all day and night.
