one thing we need to write about is how… if you've never lost your mind before, you probably take your sanity for granted. we did. and then, one day, it was gone

every now and then i'm in some situation where light sources seem like they could be slightly brighter or whiter than normal, and then i have to spend a while trying to be sure i'm not currently losing it. a normal person would never even think of worrying about that

One of the reasons I went full laptop is that they always let you adjust display brightness from the keyboard, instead of stuffing it in some grody menu.
Not the same thing, but I suppose I can relate.

        * also have a displayport breakout board for using laptop panels as normal monitors, where you adjust brightness by holding the power button (ugly but still better).

"Desktop Replacement" should be seen as a state of mind: not merely a hokey way of selling the biggest, loudest and toastiest laptops known to man.
Anything with video out and a big enough PCIe/USB/etc. interface could probably fit the bill (ideally a Noctua-tier fan, if laptops were still allowed to be chunky).
