    Disturbing story on the intersection of AI and foreign interference in Alberta’s separation campaign. It raises many troubling questions. Who is paying for AI slop disinformation? And who is consuming it? And how on earth can those on the No side compete? #ableg #abpoli

    @Paulatics @thetyee “I think if you just look at it more broadly, it suggests that there is very clearly an American-led attempt to normalize and amplify the idea of Alberta becoming the 51st state of the U.S. annexation. And the co-ordination effort is so obvious.” Patrick Lennon, a former criminal intelligence manager for the RCMP’s federal policing program in Alberta,

      @Paulatics @thetyee
      its the classic paring of outrage and ignorance for political gain, one pushes the other, allowing the other to become wider and more effective, that allows the other to become wider and more effective.

      But when an outsider, not taken by the ignorance and outrage calls it out, they are taken as an outsider, one of "them" and readily dismissed.

      It takes a very careful curation and management of the ignorance and outrage to keep pushing the extremes, but not too far at once, an awareness of what outrage and ignorance can be pushed, who can push it, and who will accept and join and accept, and who should be abandoned and dismissed.

      rinse and repeat ...

          Here's an idea: just retain the east-west corridor that includes Calgary and let em have the rest--and see how long *that* lasts...

            This story from @thetyee broke while our Standing Senate Committee on Transport And Communications was meeting to conduct hearings on generative AI. I was able to sneak in a related question at the tail end of the meeting. https://youtu.be/0HAgoeteUcI?si=0SfsXU5owPeXuPC0 #ableg #cdnpoli #TRCM #Canada #ForeignInterference #YouTube #AI #separatism

                @Paulatics @thetyee Meanwhile the feds are looking much harder at regulating people's access to Internet platforms via identification rather than regulating the platform companies, forcing them to stop harming us.

                      Dear Senator Simons,
                      Could you please use your expansive understanding of our system to help the federal government understand how critically important it is to get Canada away from the compromised and national security threatening tech? How about the federal government covera the cost for universities, colleges and schools to switch to Linux? I see it as some compensation for not properly managing foreign students and instead imposing a blanket ban that is existentially threatening many institutes.
