@Tutanota I just want non-Google Linux phones to become mainstream. Since android is based on Linux anyway, most apps should work or be easy to port?
I would love to be able to root my phone, but some of us just suck at these things and it's not worth the risk of bricking our devices. I wish we could have off the shelf Linux phones that don't require advanced tech skills to use or set up.

@Tutanota just gave Google this comment:
"Many of the apps I use on a daily, nay HOURLY basis come from F-droid and elsewhere. That is why I have always bought an Android phone, so I could do that. If I can't do that in the future, there's no reason not to buy an Apple product. Ask Samsung how they feel about that, why don't you?" -

@Tutanota wait a second... Android had freedom?
I thought Android was always corporate owned. which is the opposite of freedom.

@Tutanota Google doesn't have to keep Android Open, there's nothing stopping them from taking a massive dump on AOSP.
I hope Google locks down Android so people will be funnelled into actually open mobile OSes

@VerenaRupp @Tutanota after 2026 globally or maybe after 2026 September

@budududuroiu @Tutanota Yeah, if only there actually were some open ones that you could use for everyday things like paying bills, confirming purchases and general banking errands... I don't think you realise the chokehold Apple and Google has on all of this around the world.
