    „Die Zukunft war früher auch besser“, a famous quote by Karl Valentin, a Munich comedian (1882-1948), is surprisingly hard to translate in a way that preserves the nuances. „The future used to look better“ is my best try, but it’s not really good. It misses the special humour of the German version. So. Fediverse. Gimme your best version 🙂

          @jwildeboer That really is a tough one!
          Here is my humble attempt: 'Even the future used to be better in the good old days'

              @jwildeboer I think I'd just go for

              The future used to be better

              This contains the play with the tenses

                  @jwildeboer Back then, everything was better, even the future.

                  Not literal, but more explicitly includes the "auch" that implies it wasn't just the future that was better.

                    @jwildeboer i will not be able to translate it and carry the magic of his work.. But I have to add this one

                    Hoffentlich wird es nicht so schlimm, wie es schon ist

                    Hopefully it won't get as bad as it already is
