Well, my first postcard is away.

Well, my first postcard is away. They like elephants, and I happened to get an elephant pic in my random mixed bag of cheap cards, so that worked out well.
They also requested a lot of writing on the card, and me being naturally wordy that's fine, but me being naturally anxious I also had to copy the dimensions onto tracing paper first and practise fitting everything in!
I checked the code and address about six times but am still worried I somehow did it wrong. So now we wait

@dtq1952 I'm excited to be taking part but also very stressed about making a stupid newbie mistake

I love Postcrossing! I'm up to 36 different countries in just over a year and I love getting mail! -

@thegiddystitcher I used to enjoy postcrossing, but then Finnish Post started asking for 2.75€ to 3.05€ per postcard... Sadly I am not made of money, so I couldn't really justify the expense any more!

@sinituulia Yeah it's super expensive here too so I won't be sending a lot, but did just get a load of discount stamps that will make it sting less (assuming I can bear to post them and don't accidentally collect them instead).

@thegiddystitcher It can be really wonderful!
I sent quite a few during a period of a couple of years, and this was around the time Russia attacked Ukraine. I got a nice postcard from a Russian teacher who'd picked out a card with a rainbow of colour pencils with the word love in all caps on it... And he talked about how horrifying it was and that he hoped his neighbour (we share a border) would remember that not everyone approved, and that peace would come. I still have all of the postcards I received, but that one in particular I remember. It's different holding something handwritten from a person!
I hope he's okay. -

@thegiddystitcher hurray! I hope the destination wasn't too far away so it won't be a very long wait.
I always love receiving from newbies 🥰 -

I always love receiving from newbies 🥰@ScubaET Just a short hop over into Europe and the recipient seems like they do a LOT of postcrossing so they'll hopefully report in straight away

when¹ I get Russian addresses I always try to be careful not to say anything that may cause them problems if a nosy neighbor reads the card, but I often wonder, and hope that being somewhat connected to the rest of the world helps
¹ and it's often, since there are a lot of Russian postcrossers, and a number of countries that no longer send mail to Russia

@valhalla We no longer send or receive mail from them, so yeah. There was a very small window that the postcard could even still get to me...
