          @Daojoan Truly a testament to the way public discourse is molded around older generations that, in the year of our lord 2026, it is basically verboten to state "the US suffers from artificial housing scarcity because the system is structured to preserve and enhance incumbent homeowner asset values at all costs."

          It's clear as day. But no one will say the obvious.

            @Daojoan Saying that they designed the system is giving too much credit... but give them credit for taking advantage of it and preserving it, even if they don't realize what they're actually doing

              @womble @Daojoan yes, but if the purpose of a system is what it does, it doesn't matter who designed it.

              (the people who own the houses did not, for the most part, design the system. anyway.)
