Still, not to sound like old timer yelling at clouds, was a time one would not do that, mostly predicated on not wanting to be associated with the then-standard-bearers of nightmarishly horrific behavior.
Now nightmarishly horrific behavior is just another day ending in a 'why' and Hitler fanboi'ing is incel catnip, now seeing it online literally every day.

The Germans of the 1930s were feeling desperate. The entire world was in economic freefall from the Great Depression and they were hard hit. And no one had been a Nazi before so it's not like they got the full story up front what they were buying into.
Today we are mostly well off in comparison and the incels certainly are; and though breadlines have come back, we know in advance how Nazis play out.

Not sure who we is though.
in another convo today someone was pointing out masto is an echo chamber and while I think a lot of that is folks here tend to bright and reasonable and as such will come to similar conclusions when presented with similar data more than we like getting empty praise, e.g. the masto detestation of AI companions, the incels are actually immersed in echo chambers.
Intellectual inquiry not a big thing in such communities so uphill move to pull growth off.
