    Thats some what true.

I did an install lately and encrypted btrfs with several subvolumes worked the first time.

That is not the process I am used to. Need more frustration /s

@itsfoss as someone who had to compile everything from the ground up back in the 1990's, I don't see it as an issue. In fact, I never want to have to go through that early experience again. What's the argument for making it more difficult to install? So you can flex?

@itsfoss Nah! That's gate keeping... lowering the threashold to Arch is a good thing

@itsfoss I like the manual install better, because I like to know how everything works and I need a reminder every so often πŸ™‚ if people want to use a gui, let them. I'll stick with the cli diy.

Well, I think archinstall is pretty cool for those who want to use arch but aren't ready for a command line style install. Or who know how to install it that way but just want to skip all the manual stuff.

I like the traditional way because I know what I'm putting on my system and I can quickly and easily configure it the way I want.

I do like the meme though and enjoy the banter that follows. I don't need to feed the trolls on this one, "BTW" πŸ˜‰

@itsfoss It’s good to learn how to do it manually once so you learn about each component of an OS and know what’s what but not everyone hs the time to configure things every time they do a reinstall. That’s why I love NixOS. I have my config and can set up a machine to use my preferred setup and packages in <30 min and changes stay consistent across machines.

@itsfoss I agree, but up to a point and I'll explain; to learn how to install and configure ArchLinux (but Linux in general), using archinstall is not recommended. But after you learn how to do it, if you're working (and by working I mean someone pays you for your work) and maybe you want to use ArchLinux to do a Firewall or something, having archinstall that lets you quickly install a minimal version is a nice help, believe me.

@itsfoss But for noobs like me, I'd say it helps getting started (Even though I still get lots of trouble while using `archinstall`)

@itsfoss if you don't like it don't use it. No point in removing things others like, just because you don't

@itsfoss Archinstall doesn't support my use case, so I never use it, but Arch still works.

For many people though, I would imagine that having a script makes this tinker-friendly distro more accessible. Arch doesn't carry strong opinions, so user meddling tends not to cause instability. That's the real fun imo
