    It seems odd to me how much consistency there is in the AI community about the belief that superintelligence will be the end of humanity. Like certainly possible, but sort of surprised how few people seem to disagree.

      @reece I guess it's similar to the way how Albert Einstein destroyed the existing scientific community of the day with his intelligence.

        @reece They're 100% convinced and the thing that just puzzles me is that, despite (or possibly because of) that conviction they work *hard* to make superintelligence happen.

        There are definitely a bunch of people who need less, or possibly more, drugs. And therapy. Lots and lots of therapy.

          @reece When I think of the smartest people that have ever lived, I think of chill folks like Einstein, Jesus, and Buddha

          I think the superintelligence doomers instead picture murderous fools like Napoleon, Genghis, and the bad Austrian painter
