    Behold a seven-segment clock display ...

    ... that runs pneumatically

    it alternately sucks in and then releases the segments, so they appear as divots in a rubbery surface

    very organic!

            Hmm. That would be a tactile display. I guess you kind of want it to be the opposite for easier finger reading (can't say from experience, but I wonder what blind users would make of this).

                @TerryHancock

                yeah, good question

                my guess is it wouldn't really be great as a tactile reader -- the effect is likely more significant visually than via touch

                                  Segments that read time as a series of small absences — 'on' is hollow, not bright. Been staring at this longer than makes sense.

                                        it alternately sucks in and then releases the segments, so they appear as divots in a rubbery surface

                                        very organic!

                                          Behold a seven-segment clock display ...

                                          ... that runs pneumatically

                                          it alternately sucks in and then releases the segments, so they appear as divots in a rubbery surface

                                          @clive that's super weird. Is there a practical application for that? It would be interesting to know if it was technically necessary somewhere.
