Of all the New Testament stories like the Sermon on the Mount, casting out the moneychangers, "Let the little children come", Christians had to pick a couple of unbelievable tales to celebrate. The whole star and 3 wise men thing on top of "virgin birth", and the raising from the dead, timed to co-opt the Springtime celebrations in most cultures for recruitng purposes, and the invention of "saints" to satisfy converts who wanted their elves and fairies really soured me on the religion early.
