Roma, 13 mar. (askanews) - "I libanesi non hanno scelto questa guerra, vi sono stati trascinati": lo ha affermato il segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite Antonio Guterres che ha compiuto una visita in segno di "solidarietà" a Beirut, dove ha incontrato il presidente libanese Joseph Aoun.
"Lo so, so che i libanesi stanno soffrendo enormemente. So che i libanesi musulmani stanno terminando il Ramadan. I libanesi cristiani stanno terminando la Quaresima. E questi dovrebbero essere momenti di pace. Questi dovrebbero essere momenti di solidarietà".
La guerra in Libano ha causato oltre 687 morti e più di 800.000 sfollati dal 2 marzo, secondo il ministero della Salute libanese.
"Purtroppo il Libano è stato trascinato in una guerra che questa popolazione non avrebbe voluto combattere", ha aggiunto.
"Trovare una soluzione che permetta al Libano di diventare un Paese indipendente, con sovranità e integrità territoriale rispettate, e in cui le autorità abbiano - come ho detto - il monopolio sull'uso della forza".
"Non è più il tempo dei gruppi armati. È il tempo degli stati forti", ha concluso Guterres.M.O., Guterres in Beirut: "The Lebanese people did not choose this war."
Rome, March 13 (askanews) - "The Lebanese have not chosen this war, they have been dragged into it": this was stated by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who made a visit in a sign of "solidarity" to Beirut, where he met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
“I know, I know that the Lebanese are suffering enormously. I know that Muslim Lebanese are ending Ramadan. Christian Lebanese are ending Lent. And these should be times of peace. These should be times of solidarity.”
The war in Lebanon has caused over 687 deaths and more than 800,000 displaced persons since February 2nd, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
“Unfortunately, Lebanon has been dragged into a war that this population did not want to fight,” he added.
“Finding a solution that allows Lebanon to become an independent country, with its sovereignty and territorial integrity respected, and in which authorities have – as I said – a monopoly on the use of force.”
“It is no longer the time of armed groups. It is the time of strong states,” Guterres concluded.
