NEW | UK security adviser attended US-Iran talks and judged deal was within reach -The Guardian

“We regarded Witkoff and Kushner as Israeli assets that dragged a president into a war he wants to get out of", a Gulf diplomat familiar with the talks was quoted saying.

Britain’s National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell reportedly concluded that a diplomatic agreement between the United States and Iran was within reach shortly before Washington and Tel Aviv launched their attack, according to The Guardian.

Sources said Tehran presented a “surprising” and substantial proposal during Geneva negotiations, offering strict limits on uranium enrichment, international monitoring, and long-term guarantees aimed at preventing escalation toward war.

Mediators reportedly viewed the proposal as a breakthrough that could have prevented further confrontation. However, negotiations abruptly collapsed when the US and Israel launched strikes just two days before the next round of talks.

British officials reportedly saw no evidence of an imminent Iranian threat or nuclear breakout, contributing to the UK’s reluctance to fully endorse the attack.
