@ben @foone My very first exposure to BASIC came when my dad brought a terminal home to do some remote computer work around 1980. This was not the big CRT-plus-keyboard sort of terminal you might envision when you think of old computer “terminals”. It had an acoustic modem coupler (the “stick the phone handset in the cuffs” kind) and all output was on thermal paper stored in the terminal case.
Yes, one of the first things I did (accidentally, to be sure) was put a BASIC program into an infinite loop.
Yes, it printed out the same line over and over on the rapidly spooling thermal paper.
Fortunately, nobody was upset (solution: yoink handset, flip power switch) , and that was a well-learned lesson.
