A solution that didn't have a problem. Extreme engineering challenges FOR WHAT⁉️ Boardroom porn. Make phones thin in a race to the bottom, then fold them to make them twice as thick again, where did that logic come from?

@datn I'm abstaining because I wasn't in the market for a cell phone when the Motorola StarTAC came out

Some of my favorite handsets have been clamshells

I'm intrigued by recent folding phones but I tend to keep my phones a really long time so I've stuck to the glowing glass rectangle variety because I think they would last longer

@datn@xoxo.zone Foldable device, great, space for physical buttons. Foldable screen, not for me.

sorry for the lack of clarity, folks. I should have said "smartphones with foldable displays" -- I was too close to the recent news that Apple is going to make foldable smartphones.

@datn Good catch 😄 My old Nintendo DS was going “I’ve been amazing all this time!”

@wra my bad, I should have been clearer. I was riding on the context of today's news about Apple's foldable iPhones 🙂

                Old-school flip phones are fine.

Foldable screens are a stupid form of planned obsolescence. I have absolutely no interest in them.

@datn I was pretty excited, and I've now had a Z Flip (currently on a Z Flip 7) of some form for years now. Still really like the form factor, and haven't had any issues with the fragility

@datn In school I had a Sharp EL-9000 calculator. Foldable. Eventually the folding circuitry failed. Any folding electronics I see today, I remember the loss of my favourite calculator.
