    So I am 14 days out from cataract surgery and my motivation to write (my day job) has crashed.

    Reading/writing is quite fatiguing at present because of my deteriorating sight, and knowing it's going to get better after a specific date is hugely demotivating in the intervening term!

    (On the other hand I last took a significant stretch of time off last October. Hmm.)

      @cstross Can you limit your writing to a minimal time? Or just rest for 14 days?

        @cstross all the love - my dad is also right now a few weeks away from cataract surgery, and the nervousness is slowly starting to spread towards me...

        Take the time off!

          @cstross

          I hope the cataract surgery goes well. Most people can see much better very quickly after the surgery, but a word of warning -- that's not true for everyone.

          It took me weeks to be able to see at all well, and more time before I could write. Now, everything is fine and I can read & write easily with drugstore reading glasses, and don't wear glasses at all otherwise.

          So don't despair if it takes a while. I wish someone had told me that before my surgery.

            @GinevraCat Limits don't play well with my headmeat. I tend to set targets (daily word count goals) but over the past couple of years they've gotten ever smaller, because eyeballs don't work too well. I've been averaging 1000 words/day this past month which is pathetic. (Circa 2012 I wrote a 120,000 word novel in 18 days, and my publishers took it pretty much unchanged. (I rewrote the final chapter: I'd been running low on steam by the time I got to it the first time round.))
