I'm in the process of learning German. I wanted desktop client for translating text as just another way to explore the language.

I have Dialect installed on my machine and am using Lingva as the translation backend.

I also downloaded Speech Note and used the firefox translation model it provides as the backend.

I wanted to comparable the translations were for something I know. I went with

"Is it spicy?" Based on my limited knowledge I expected that to be. "Ist es scharf?"

    Dialect returns "Ist es scharf?"

Speech Note returned "Ist es würzig?"

Doing a little research it seems that würzig is more intended to be savory but might also be meant to describe a blend of herbs & spices.

Questions for my instructor when class starts back up, I guess.

@jeremiah theres some discussion here about the different terms and when/why they are used.

I'd also pick "scharf" but there's other cultural influences, I'm of Asian ancestry and it would be unusual for me to eat anything with completely 0 spice in it, but with middle age anything *too* spicy plays hell with my stomach..
