Interesting. It seems like there are way more Linux users here than I expected.

So, let’s do a little roll call:

    What are you using?

    Linux?
    Windows?
    macOS?
    BSD?
    Something beautifully weird?

    I’m curious 👀

@Lori_Noctis welcome to Masto! And yeah, there's a lot of us here. More BSD folks than you'll find on any other social media site too.

Would you like some suggestions for people to follow or anything?

@Lori_Noctis well old school nerd and HTML-Hobbit are two big factions here, so I'm sure you'll find your people. If you want a few tips, https://fedi.tips/ is a fantastic resource for new folks.

                        @Lori_Noctis

                        [x] Linux - daily
[x] Windows - a couple of times a week, reluctantly
[x] macOS - daily, and at the moment
                        [ ] BSD
                        [x] CP/M - now & again

Nothing wrong with BSD; it simply doesn't scratch an itch that isn't scratched by other options.

If I had more than one student every three years or so who used BSD, I'd spend m̶o̶r̶e̶ time making sure my assignments worked with BSD. As it is, I think students with BSD on a laptop are where students with Linux on a laptop were 20 years ago: if you chose to have a different environment, then you're assuming the responsibility to make it work for school. That you made the environment work AT ALL suggests you have the ability to make it work for school.

(I've had one student **ever** who tried using ChomeOS -- our answer to them was "here's the client app for our VM server.")

@Lori_Noctis Come to think of it, maybe I will set up a BSD system, just to drive our university's ITS department batty. As it is, they barely have a grip on how to handle Linux in the increasingly-tightly-managed network. I think insisting on a BSD system be treated as a trusted device will melt their poor, Microsoft-addled brains.

I'm curious tho': the fediverse is very much a Linux-friendly idea. What made you think there were "less"(relatively) Linux users?
