This book series is mesmerising and so trippy! I just loved the experience of reading it! I can see why this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I guess I'm just the right kind of person who appreciates stories that make me feel like my brain is melting.

I'm also amazed by the fact that this book came out 10 years after the first 3 were published in 2014. Despite the long time gap between them, Absolution maintained the same quality as the original trilogy. It fits in effortlessly, in my opinion.

Another thing that blew my mind is that VanderMeer wrote all of these books in such a short amount of time. The original trilogy was written and published within just a few months in 2014. VanderMeer started thinking about a 4th book in 2017, but it wasn't until a dream gave him the inspiration for Absolution in July 2023 that he started to continuously write and finish the novel within 6 months. Hellooo, George R. R. Martin! How about you take a leaf out of VanderMeer's book!
