Because Apple Music insisted I try, I gave its new playlist creation feature a try.

Simple enough, with still enough room to go wrong.

    Solo Jazz Piano. Twenty songs.

How could it go wrong? It might easily include a combo, a rhythm section.

Or even a vocalist or another instrumentalist.

    Will see if it succeeded.

Oops. Can see just viewing the list it failed. One says ‘featuring Ron Carter’, so it did include a bass accompaniment on at least one track.

Oh! Another! Chet Baker. Of course at least Vocals, and a trumpet.
The following song? Strings. Drums. Guitar and I know George Benson gonna sing too!

If I edited out the songs that did not meet the criteria, would it learn?

I’m not terribly concerned. I expected as much slop.

I’ve worked in record stores multiple times. Probably any one who has, has also been able to spot the people who didn’t really like music. No affinity for music. They were the ones who didn’t know the names of any artists, or songs.

They asked for music by lifestyle. Beach music. Music to shag to. Workout music.

That’s who this damned playlist creation algo is meant for. People who can’t be arsed to have an opinion on music. No knowledge.

@Chancerubbage i grudgingly use platform-generated playlists as a means of discovery to find artists i wasn't previously aware of though i would much prefer human suggestions
