Imagine using the web with no ad blocker... I know some people who do this and I just can't understand it. I had to do it once recently and I almost threw my computer across the room.@wakingrufus @ShadowJonathan so sudden urge to throw computer is normal, I guess...
One day I had freshly reinstalled Firefox, without any plugins yet. And friend sent me YT links on chat. Damn... -
@ShadowJonathan yeah and if something is advertised too aggressively - i will actively avoid that thing and look for alternatives every chance i get

@ShadowJonathan Well, I just bought a new wifi camera because the perfectly-working-old-one decided I needed to watch two ads (with no visible X or skip button) before using the app. I guess that's on me because 10 years ago I went the cheap route and the "service" (allow to see then from outside my network) was convenient (not anymore, learned my lesson)

@ShadowJonathan Every so often when I'm driving I'm too distracted by the driving to start skipping the ads for whatever podcast I'm listening to, and then I'll pay attention again and go "Why the fuck am I listening to these?" And promptly finish skipping through almost with a sense of shame for not paying enough attention to do so x3

As a hacker I will employ any and all means to avoid seeing advertisements at all. I go as far as writing user scripts to block website elements that advertise AI features of the same site.

@ShadowJonathan Why yes, I do use adblock and am proud of it.
I don't actually use sponsor block because some youtubers are actually kind of tactful. but, those are few and far between, and I drop any channel that takes sponsors and just does straight ad reads. -

@ShadowJonathan @Natsura ...but an ad is basically "Here is a product/service that is not competitive by itself. It only works because we tell people to buy it"
Btw. the best handymen are the ones with the worst looking cars that can afford to get gigs just by personal refferal.

@ShadowJonathan I've never understood why people who are given the choice tell Google to schlurp up more info so the company can present "better-targeted" advertisements. If I have to endure ads, I want them to be for things I have no interest in whatsoever.
