It does not already have ads?

-
@ShadowJonathan Same. My usual reaction to ads is more like Gandalf covering the palantír.

@Uair im from 2000, idk if thats gen X
-
@ShadowJonathan wait not everyone cusses out their TV when the ads come on?
-

No. You're the next generation.
But it sounds like you have a Gen X soul.
That is a compliment. We raised ourselves. From second grade on, I got up to an empty house, drank my coffee while I read the paper, cooked my own food, and got my own ass off to school. I came home to an empty house as well. It taught Gen X a kind of self-sufficiency that I've never seen in any generation before or since.
We may not have had a mighty war to fight, for or against, but we had a kind of guts that I'm only starting to see repeated in the young 'uns who grew up with active shooter drills and 24/7 surveillance.
Being honorary Gen X is a compliment. We're not the Boomers.

@OvertonDoors @redsad i just don't give ads that level of respect, I only listen or watch things without ads or I just won't watch them
I don't even dignify ads with my alertness to silence them, they can just fuck off with the medium they've infected and grabbed, it's become worthless to me the moment that medium got unskippable ads
-
@ShadowJonathan@tech.lgbt i do all of the same things ngl
-
@ShadowJonathan yes, and streaming is the worst. They run the same ads on a loop all evening ...and I do what you do :>)
-

@redsad @ShadowJonathan Not watching TV really helps in this regard.
And uBlock Origin for the web. -
@Uair @ShadowJonathan
I hate making everything a generational thing just as much as I hate ads. -
@ShadowJonathan I guess I'm doing it right, when the advertisers are already actively attacking all the ways I avoid watching the ads, including attempts at blocking ad blockers or just trying to win me over with sad pleas.
-
@ShadowJonathan sponsorblock and ublock is my answer to ads
-

@ShadowJonathan you can eliminate almost all of them with some effort but it really annoys me that you can't do anything about the ones in the bus (stops) and the train (stations), apart from moving
which means either to a cool place like Skåne that has actively taken action to prevent advertising in public spaces; or to the middle of nowhere where advertising is not profitable, like in rural Scotland where bus stops are just cute wee wooden shelters and billboards are a foreign concept
And for most ppl neither is really an option:/

@ShadowJonathan It it also a sign that the product is overpriced as you (the customer) have to pay not only the manufacturing costs and the salary of the seller but also all the marketing expenses you never asked for
