Is it just me or is Mastodon getting to be a slightly angrier place?
Even up to a year ago I feel that most replies were people having respectful, intelligent conversations, but more and more these days I'm seeing angry Twitter-style insults (someone even quote-tooted one of my more innocent posts calling me an assclown, which is an insult that I've never heard before but think is really sweet).
What's going on?
@davidnjoku “da peeps” are here!

@davidnjoku I’ve never liked quote tooting/tweeting. People seem to use it mainly to add a negative comment they wouldn’t put in a reply.

@davidnjoku As you mentioned in one of your replies: The world is an angrier place. It’s a shame though to see people taking that out on each other. But it seems there’s an air of inevitability with social media that’s how it goes. I suppose the best a lot of us can do is try to rein it in when we see it emerge in ourselves (I try to do it before I post a reply that assumes the worst of what someone has said)

Nothing wrong in blocking and silencing some people, except it's work.

@davidnjoku
I haven't seen it in replies really but overall I do think that yes there is more general anger/angst. What I'm seeing is more generated by despair at the shit show of Trumpism and the rest though, rather than the kind of reply arseholery you mentioned. But I guess that's the thing with fedi stuff, everyone has their own different experience dependent on so many filters and settings etc. -

@davidnjoku i think it's also part of the fedi growing. smaller communities tend to less vitriol

@davidnjoku no, but perhaps that's by comparison: I've had reason to spend a bit more time on Bluesky recently, and that place (at least my feed) is far far angrier
