    With Latest Rollback, the #US Essentially Has No #CleanCar Rules

    The #EPA’s killing of the #EndangermentFinding caps a year of #deregulation that is likely to make #cars thirstier for #gas & less competitive globally, experts say. [absolutely true, other countries have regulations, if US cars aren’t made to meet their standards, no one can buy them anywhere but in the US. Idiotic.]

      @Nonilex Not that this absolves the fascist administration in any way, but car makers could choose to be more responsible than the law requires them to be. They could believe in their product and their engineers and try to make something people actually want to buy. Everything doesn't have to be done to the lowest common denominator, but of course knowing US big business it will be so hopefully Trump killing Ford & GM will convince Americans to drive less.

        @Nonilex I have heard the observation that this rollback will not survive judicial review. The EPA rulemaking is obligatory provided the endangerment finding was valid, and that finding was done by a rigorous and legislatively mandated project. So when interested parties challenge the rollback, courts will be faced with - on the one hand, a political opinion; and on the other hand, decades of copious scientific evidence. It is hard to see how the rollback can be sustained.

          @PedestrianError @Nonilex
          There is plenty demand for EVs, they just have to make the cars people want. #GM #Ford and #Stellantis sell #EVs in the rest of the world, but US politicians are cheaper than development and as long as their congressional whores can keep China out they don’t care. They’ll get bailed out again anyway

          American auto has been aware of climate change almost as long as #exxonknew

          Exclusive: GM, Ford knew about climate change 50 years ago

          Scientists at two of America's biggest automakers knew as early as the 1960s that car emissions caused climate change, a monthslong investigation by E&E
