      @jepyang and the "I didn't even tell him to say that" implies he often DOES tell him to say mean things 😭😭

          idk why this still bugs me so much

          I feel like parenting is hard enough, I think people having to do it with a partner who doesn't care about their happiness would be worse than hell.

          Both my parents wanted to be parents and wanted each other to enjoy being a parent and I think it left me very unprepared and very shocked by the real world where one or the other is not often enough the case.

          Anyways, happy day to everyone who has feelings about today.

          @vapaad so many women are married to men who actively dislike them. It's heartbreaking.

            the mom just looked so fucking sad. she said this is what she wanted to do for mother's day (nursery is closed Sunday) and that she never complains at his favorite places.

            wishing some extra joy to all the moms with such mean partners today.

            Oh, that's so heartbreaking. My mom was always so saddened when her plans for [family activity that would mean a lot to her] didn't work out. Sometimes it was not having the money to do it, sometimes it was having something else come up urgently, or one of us kids was sick, or...

            I don't think my dad understood how much that type of thing meant to her, BUT he would never have tried to ruin something.

            That's so cruel.

              YES. I'm unpacking a lot of trauma from my childhood, BUT I can say this same thing about my parents, & even though I've seen a lot of awful stuff by now, this stuff sometimes still shocks me.

              Like, my parents *loved* each other & us, & that was never in doubt.

                @vapaad
                Our mom stayed at home with us & did all the usual domestic stuff, cooking & cleaning, but when Dad was home it was never that SHE was parenting, & he was doing his own thing. If Dad was there, he was as responsible for us as she was.

                  @vapaad @weirdofhermiston it's super sad. I mean I'm sure she imagined she was partnering up with a decent human...and then only after having a kid, finding out…he was only really being "nice" as a strategy for getting what he wanted: "winning" a partner/family as his "prize"

                  part of the sadness must be about how much of a emotionally stunted loser her supposed partner turned out to be.
