@pleia2 As long as it's a G5 PowerPC with Debian, he's fine. Right? Right?
To his credit, he did talk to me before he bought it and asked if I thought he was a traitor.
At the end of the day, he needed some software that only runs well on a Mac and getting the job done is actually the most important thing. I suppose. It still hurts my heart

So he asked me for a Windows laptop
Then he got on my Linux desktop, clearly disappointed with what he found, and tried to launch Windows.
I guess it's time to have The Talk

They changed from OpenGL to Vulkan and that's good for Linux usage.
I read there's a Minecraft launcher(?)
I can offer some help, even if I have never used it, just in case you want to rubber duck or troubleshoot something.

@kamihack Yep! You can even download it from the official Minecraft website. I've never tried it though.
I expect I'll have to buy the PC version eventually, so I should probably just do that and give it a spin.
(We also bought it for the PS5 and the Switch, when will this madness end?!)

@pleia2 Heh. Luckily, in this household everyone runs Linux (Reviewer 1 is quite happy with Luanti instead of Minecraft).
But I've also just realized that modern Debian doesn't run on the G5, as that is POWER4, while ppc64le needs POWER8 at a minimum.
Why do I feel old now?

@zhenech I installed Lubuntu on a Powerbook G4 back in 2013. It's still in my closet, with the appropriate decal.
That's the only Mac I've ever owned.

@pleia2 Lovely decal. I own a 12" iBook G4, because at some point in my life I was mad enough to spend money on hardware just to port something to it (https://github.com/linux-thinkpad/hdapsd in that case).

I got this one from a neighbor in the building in SF who was trying to get rid of it in 2012, so I probably only paid a couple hundred dollars for it.

#linux@pleia2 Minecraft is the origin story of how my son became a great developer. High time your's got access to the "proper" MC version. I'm not even kidding a little bit.
