Lost several hours of work today because company is using #Cisco #Umbrella for secure #DNS but they are banned/unavailable in France, so my PC had no DNS service as it ignores the DHCP provided one... It couldn't update itself as it couldn't phone home to get the instructions to say ignore the secure DNS, and I don't have the authority to change anything locally...
What fun we had fixing that...!

@drscriptt They changed the policy at the corporate end, and then I did a "powerwash" on the chromebook which does a near factory reset.
When I put in my corporate credentials in, it went back to the mothership to get my profile, but as it didn't have the the borked DNS rule it was able to read my updated profile and all was well.

@drajt thank you for explaining.
So you darn near factory reset your device to get it to a state that it would work and the. It reloaded your specific settings from corporate.
I’m glad they made it work for you.
But it feels like a solution somewhat specific to the way that chrome books operate and wouldn’t work with many other things.

@drscriptt I fear it could have been worse on Windows if they had installed something that steals DNS settings and can't be reset locally. At least forcing a near factory reset on Chromebooks isn't too drastic...
