Hey #lenovo , can you stop this crap?

I have a #thinkpad x13s that apparently needs a SPECIAL version of #windows11 that only YOU have.

And when I go to get it, not only do i have to register, provide a serial number and deal with captca.. but then you give me an EXE to create the media??!?!

I have a machine that can't boot windows so you give me a windows executable?

Why not just a damn ISO? I wish #linux would boot on this thing

@codemonkeymike Yep… that’s what I was afraid of. I had trialed an HP ARM notebook and it had the same limitations.

Well, kinda. An exe is a dos executable that may be happy running without a gui. Can you boot to the cli and run it?

And since you can't boot, what would you do with an iso, anyhow? You gotta burn it with something or mount it into something.

A Debian Linux system should boot. Why don't you try booting a Debian live system from a USB drive? Microsoft is absolute garbage anyway, and with that account requirement, it's completely useless.

@codemonkeymike Wow. That is bad. I've never heard of this happening. I'm sure there's precedent but. Wow.

@joshthetechie why is arm such a pain lol.

I can boot to the NixOS installer, but then it just reboots before it gets past loading the kernel

@daumenlutscher I'm only installing windows to update the firmware which I apparently need to do if I'm ever to get Linux to boot

PostmarketOS (Linux) works well on this, apart from the camera and GPS.

@codemonkeymike@fosstodon.org I'm just saying that maybe it's a dos executable amd you could try burning a small dos iso on your linux box, boot the PC and see if it'll run.

Which, of course, is very unlikely and would be the stupidest thing for Lenovo to do, but maybe?
