hey, fuck Pete Docter (the ceo of Pixar) for making a queer director cut a storyline about growing up gay because, and quote: "We’re making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy." i'm sure there's great people working at Pixar still, but this is so backward. it shows that, at their core, they don't care about art. they could be making deodorant for all they care. as long as they're useful and profitable for Disney, that's all that matters now. #pixar #disney #movies

@wizardneedsfood@retro.pizza Honestly it's just really sad that Pixar turned into Yet Another Studio.

Actually, I'm more pissed off that Toy Story hasn't existentially sent kids to therapy yet they're chugging those out.

@wizardneedsfood@retro.pizza "we can't have meaning in our works, that would limit the potential customer base! make it bland, safe and palatable to everyone!"

@wizardneedsfood That quote makes me sad. The exact reason why I loved most of the pre-20's Pixar movies was that they were collective therapy. Built around a specific chatacter with specific issues. But in the end, the lessons were for everyone.

@mgclgrl @wizardneedsfood That's what happens when "we do a movie, try CGI because it's cheaper and gives us options" becomes "oh well let's make a 200 million $ tech demo, which in turn needs to match a minimum consensus so it has a slight chance to make those 200M$ back". After Flow, I halfway expect smaller productions for a narrower targeted audience to be made (and shown!) but there is still this "animation is for kids" mindset which blocks innovation and variation.
