    Okay, things are very bad.

I would like to hear what other people are doing to help. Little day to day things that more people could do, to build community, to resist overt or creeping authoritarianism, to show joy to a world that desperately needs it.

@Cassandra - Installing, maintaining, cleaning, and stocking free fridges.

Currently trying to add lots of routes to our food rescue program. In talks with two franchises to get them onboarded, partnered with local food bank to onboard some of their food rescue routes, about to reach out to smaller local shops and onboard them.

Spun up and volunteer with a local Linux Install Party and install and maintain linux installations for neighbors turning their older laptops into modern and updated workstations.

That's about my capacity. I've had to drop or hand off other things.

@tinker so I'm wanting to know how you manage this time/effort spend. Do you have bandwidth left from whatever daily us economy requirement to put into this X hours a week? or are you just sacrificing sleep and other time?

I'm actively working towards having time to dedicate to community fully... I would feel so much better about myself if I could do that, but feel like I'm not even close.

@alexmorse - (Sorry I'm just now seeing this!)

So two things. One my work is project based and I work from home usually (unless I'm traveling to a client). So I work on the project and as long as it gets done in the time proscribed (which is a reasonable amount of time in general and I'm fairly proficient at it now where I can finish earlier) - then everyone is happy. So I use the extra time as I can find it to do community work.

Second thing is I really don't do a whole lot. I have a dedicated amount of time that I can do it once per week really, and thats when I get my stuff done. But I very specifically approach this with a "little bit of effort is better than no effort"

Other folks are doing the same. We all pitch in a very tiny amount and it all builds on each other.

So for instance. I do 15 minutes of clean up a week for one fridge. A good handful of people do the same. Many hands make light work and generally there isn't much to clean up.

I then try to work 2 hours a week to further a specific goal. Right now I am working on building out food rescue routes. So I call one or two places and try to get something built. Or I make one trip to one place a week.

          That's it.

Others in my group only contribute as they can. We have some people who can put in a decent amount of effort for a couple of months and then have to take long breaks as their work or life has changed. Thats okay. We build on those efforts, too and even the short time that they're active with us helps us so much! Sometimes they come back after half a year and do a little bit more there as well.

You'd be gosh darned surprised at how much can get done with a whole lot of tiny sprinkles of effort given within any person's means and short periods of time.
