@daringfireball like you said about Apple slow rolling the rollout, I suspect the adoption rates they show each year simply track how quickly apple chooses to push out the update updates. The number of people who are actively avoiding updating it’s got to be vanishingly small. It’s got to be the vast vast vast majority who just allow automatic updates to happen

@daringfireball I haven't upgraded to Tahoe or iOS 26 on any of my devices and will hold off on it.

@daringfireball While this is clearly the long standing way they've tracked this; I can't help but wonder if tracking iOS app downloads is a good method ("As measured by devices that transacted on the App Store on February 12, 2026.")? I tend to go months between app downloads, so I'm not sure I'm even counted.

Also would love to see the macOS numbers.

@daringfireball I hope Apple doesn’t interpret that as customer satisfaction. I work on a team of about 30 remote field reps with company issued iPhones and iPads. None of them were happy when they were forced to upgrade.

@daringfireball The fact that they make it very very difficult not to update makes these numbers meaningless. What would they be if users were actually given choice and if auto-updates were off my default?
