Yeah, I'm gloating over Bluesky being down.

Yeah, I'm gloating over Bluesky being down. I know it's a bad look. I'm just happy that a company that adopted AI to piss off trans people they didn't like, that platformed Jesse Singal over and over again, and whose CEO tried to invent a new transphobic slur is eating shit today.
Bluesky is a transphobic company, I do not like them at all, and I am not sorry to be happy about their loss. I am sorry for the collateral damage that has on everyone who depends on Bluesky for a living.

Anyway, if you are an institution that has made the jump from the hellsite to Bluesky, consider this a reminder as to why POSSE is important. Thanks to providers like MastoHost, it's fully possible to pay for your own social media infrastructure, and to not tie all your fortunes to a single transphobic company.

I gave her the benefit of the doubt for a long ass time and criticized Bluesky on a structural level, but that whole entire incident was very mask-off. It should have been a death knell for the idea that Bluesky was anything other than Twitter 2.0 with all the negative connotations that implies.

@traumaphoenix Oh, that was months ago. She tried workshopping a new slur with Jesse Singal.. it didn't take off, but the transphobes had a whole ass field day with it for about a literal day.
The whole thing was absolutely pathetic. Almost trivial in impact, but very damning of her intentions.

@traumaphoenix Completely fair. It's petty, pointless drama, and very brain-numbing, but at the same time, it speaks so much volumes about where they're at with respect to trans oppression.

Something ironic about the first news article I found on Bluesky being down was from AOL.
Remembering Compuserve, Prodigy, and AOL before The Freenets and the Internet.
Bluesky down: Twitter competitor not working amid major outage
Bluesky has gone down in what appears to be a major outage. The X competitor, which surged in popularity in the wake of Elon Musk’s purchase of what was then Twitter, is refusing to let users log in or to show them posts. Bluesky operates an official status page which is built to give updates on outages, but that also appeared to be affected by the problems.

And I just found out that bluesky.com is a company that makes custom planners and calendars. I'd like to think they were offered a lot money for the domain name and told bsky to get stuffed.

@Laukidh @stufromoz They're claiming it's a DDoS, which while that does raise some strong questions as to whom, why, and how they're able to do so much damage to a "decentralized" platform, is at least consistent with being up and down every few minutes.
