While Harper does not actually appear on Wellington's masthead, there he is in all the Xmas photos and formally welcoming new staffers.

Mulcair, you may remember, applied to join Stephen Harper's staff in 2007 prior to joining the NDP, but according to Macleans, Harper did not offer enough money.

The last thing the NDP needs right now is this chump muddying the waters about what The Party as all about.

I honestly don’t know one person who listens to him. He’s as relevant now as he was as leader of the NDP.

@AlisonCreekside Mulcair's an ass. If he was so chummy with the Cons right before, then why did the NDP take him in and make him leader? Guy pissed away the biggest showing the party has ever had. Ass.

@ZenHeathen Because Jack Layton chose him because he was from Quebec

@AlisonCreekside Jack chose him? Aw, nuts. He couldn't have annointed someone else from among the large number of new Quebec seats they'd just won?

@ZenHeathen I liked Layton, but a politically connected friend told me he and Harper shared the goal (obsession perhaps) of destroying the LPC (Harper would get the “right-leaning” Liberals and the NDP would get the progressives). Mulcair was chosen because they thought he could carry Quebec
AND appeal to disaffected Liberals. My friend thought it was a stupid idea. His comment to me when I expressed my reservations about Mulcair and voting NDP was, “he’s no different than Harper. Vote for Trudeau if you want someone more progressive.”
