@futurebird my husband and I got married at sf city hall and truly it was such a joy. You stand in line with all the other couples, from all walks of life. And then all around the building there’s these little spots of light and joy. Everyone’s complimenting each others dresses, laughing, doing their own cultural practices all mixing together.

A reality show would be so charming. Or just send like a city hall reporter out there for a few hours every Friday for some man on the street moments.

Most of the Bakeoff franchises are really quite wholesome.

Like I've watched several seasons of the Canadian one on youtube and the moment where they call time and the camera cuts to an overhead shot of all the participants immediately turning around to look at their competitors' baked goods, going "Oh, that's beautiful" and "That looks delicious" and "How did you get that effect" is life-affirming.

Even though I live in Communist NYC where only gay marriage is allowed it seems like most of the couples are heterosexual— but regardless I love watching them just beaming ear to ear coming out to linger on the steps of the austere stone building as their friends make fun of them and fuss over their outfits.

Most of new york culture involves getting dressed up then standing on the steps of an impressive building while people take photos and gossip about it.

My favorite couple today was the one who had their kid with them who was about 4 or 5 going nuts tossing bird seed and telling me any anyone who would listen “that’s my mom! that’s my dad!”

…to remind the viewers to volunteer for Media Auntie shifts for their local elementary school's fediverse instance, with corny local slogans like "It Takes A Village — Greenwich Village"
