URGENT: Community Pledges Needed Tonight

Dear Supporters, Day 1 of the stay hearing went well, and ended particularly strong. The judge has indicated that granting a stay or injunction to stop the mine from going ahead will likely depend on our ability to post security for potential damages, which are costs to the company arising from the delay, if we end up losing the judicial review. While no amount has been set, the judge has indicated that the $60,000 we currently have is insufficient. Our legal counsel has suggested that we be able to commit to an additional $50,000 by tomorrow. To get there, we’re asking supporters to pledge their support. We have been setting this up in the form of an interest-free loan. If we win the eventual judicial review - and we believe that our chances are good, we return the funds. If we lose, the loan would be forgiven and the funds would be used to cover the damages. Amounts we are seeing so far are in the $3,000 to $10,000 range. If just ten supporters pledge $5,000 each, we’re there. Pledging is as simple as telling us how much you can commit to in an email to saverecordridge@gmail.com. The loan agreement paperwork and funds transfer would follow in the next week or two. This really is a moment of truth. If we can’t show the additional funding, we think that the judge will allow the mine to proceed, at which point a successful judicial review may not even matter. One last thing, we are trying to get the pledges in tonight, but if you get this late or just need more time, we will be checking messages through the day tomorrow.
