      You kind of expect Leo to just say, "You know I'm the *pope*, right?"

        @mattblaze

        To say Vance and Trump are ‘mansplaining’ would falsely infer that they’re men.

            @mattblaze The Catholic Church used to have more proactive means of dealing with this sort of thing.

              I mean, isn't the rule in Catholicism that the Pope is the ultimate authority and anything he says goes? Isn't Vance being a bad Catholic by arguing with him?

              @Phracker2Art @mattblaze

              The Pope is only "infallible" in pronouncements that they declare are infallible. However, in other (potentially fallible) instances, they are still the boss.

              So it's kind of like Vance is arguing with the CEO of his religion.

                @mattblaze I rather enjoy that Leo does what others should: Show Felon King no deference, and don’t stroke the ego or kiss the ring.

                  @HamonWry @mattblaze to use the word mansplaining falsy implies the pope is a woman/NB...
                  Really boys read a book about feminism please...
                  Lecturing ≠ mansplaining 🙄

                    @mattblaze He's really doing a great job of keeping his composure and patience, honestly.
                    I do kinda wish he'd just excommunicate some folks.
                    But as far as the papal soft-power approach to world affairs goes, I think his handling of this nonsense has been very effective

                    @miss_rodent @mattblaze I think he's doing his best to keep Vance from coming back to Rome, with the usual consequences.

                      @mattblaze that would be the actual best 😂

                      I would 💯 nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize
