    Twenty-eight days.

Today, it is exactly four weeks since I died.

Okay, maybe I didn't technically die, or maybe I did, I don't really know..
I do know that I did have a cardiac arrest and got CPR for three minutes before getting the defibrillator paddles twice and reawakening to a familiar, but somehow altered reality.

Waking up each day hits different now.

    Good morning.

@dabertime Been almost 2 years for me. Not cardiac, but septic shock. BP 70/0, systems shutting down. My wife was emailing friends and family that I was about to die. Obviously, I was unaware, as I was intubated and on a respirator and in a coma. But then I came back, but with some residuals. But I'm still on this side of the grass!

@lifewithtrees My life now feels more fragile, precious, simpler yet grander.
What I can do and how forever changed, heighten sensitivity, awareness.

@dabertime Amazing. Kind of uber-example of adversity teaching us. Sad that most of us need a wake up call to really start to appreciate just being alive!

@dabertime Good morning and glad things worked out! As someone who did volunteer first response for a couple decades I like to hear when everything works.

And now be that guy ๐Ÿ™‚ My understanding is that if the paddles worked then it wasnโ€™t cardiac arrest (no heart beat). Defibrillatorโ€™s only work when the heart is fibrillating.

@Chigaze first round the heart was still beating. Second round, the doctor said there was absolutely no pulse. Hence rub crushing CPR. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@dabertime No pulse can still be fibrillating, or at least thatโ€™s what we were taught because when itโ€™s like that itโ€™s not moving blood anymore.

However the technical details donโ€™t matter as much as that it worked. ๐Ÿ™‚

@Chigaze I can assure you that my records show and confirmed by the cardiologists in the cardiac unit that I was in when it happened, that no matter what you want to call it, my heart had indeed stopped. No rhythm. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@dabertime dude... We need to start a club. I had a cardiac arrest in 2012 and as a gift from the health care system I got a shiny new implanted defibrillator....so happy that you made it out the other side. Take good care. I'm here if you need to commiserate.

@dabertime it's weird to get used to having it, but it's good to know it's there. I just had mine changed out for the 3rd time. I call mine Zapp Branigan.

@vickietorious Love the name. What has been the average battery life?

@dabertime generally it should be 10 years. The battery on my first one went fast, the 2nd one, was on recall due to battery issues and then I had a lead fracture so they changed the lead and the device at the same time so I am on my 3rd device in 13 years.

@vickietorious The ICD information brochure that I got shows a person on a paddle board. I am looking forward to this as I have never used one before. ๐Ÿ˜‰
