Twenty-eight days.
Today, it is exactly four weeks since I died.
Okay, maybe I didn't technically die, or maybe I did, I don't really know..
I do know that I did have a cardiac arrest and got CPR for three minutes before getting the defibrillator paddles twice and reawakening to a familiar, but somehow altered reality.Waking up each day hits different now.
Good morning.
@dabertime Glad you’re with us

@dabertime I had wondered why we hadn't seen you in our feeds in a while. I had assumed that you'd been busy with work or a project. And I guess you have ... recovering. Glad to see you back. (Internet hug)

@dabertime Been almost 2 years for me. Not cardiac, but septic shock. BP 70/0, systems shutting down. My wife was emailing friends and family that I was about to die. Obviously, I was unaware, as I was intubated and on a respirator and in a coma. But then I came back, but with some residuals. But I'm still on this side of the grass!

@DrBones I'm discovering many near death survivors. Enjoy the grass.

@dabertime Amazing. Kind of uber-example of adversity teaching us. Sad that most of us need a wake up call to really start to appreciate just being alive!

@dabertime Good morning and glad things worked out! As someone who did volunteer first response for a couple decades I like to hear when everything works.
And now be that guy
My understanding is that if the paddles worked then it wasn’t cardiac arrest (no heart beat). Defibrillator’s only work when the heart is fibrillating. -

️@dabertime No pulse can still be fibrillating, or at least that’s what we were taught because when it’s like that it’s not moving blood anymore.
However the technical details don’t matter as much as that it worked.

@Chigaze I can assure you that my records show and confirmed by the cardiologists in the cardiac unit that I was in when it happened, that no matter what you want to call it, my heart had indeed stopped. No rhythm.

@dabertime dude... We need to start a club. I had a cardiac arrest in 2012 and as a gift from the health care system I got a shiny new implanted defibrillator....so happy that you made it out the other side. Take good care. I'm here if you need to commiserate.

@vickietorious I am pleased to be finding fellow survivors. I also have a new ICD.

@dabertime it's weird to get used to having it, but it's good to know it's there. I just had mine changed out for the 3rd time. I call mine Zapp Branigan.
