    @petrillic I was living in Triangle, VA for 9/11, right at the front gate to Quantico. So many targets around there.

    @Lightfighter exactly. Nothing to worry about. You'll be charcoal before a nerve impulse gets anywhere.

      @Lightfighter I think the safety procedure for a radioactive event is to go stand in the parking lot in alphabetical order.

        @superflippy If you are still mobile after surviving the blast by taking cover under a desk that consists of pot metal and a piece of plywood, yes.

            That's kinda my prep here, who's one of the top five employers in my town and less than 2 miles from my house? Boeing. What's the odds that Hazelwood Missouri, a town that likely no one outside of the area has heard of, is a target?

              @Lightfighter Back in the day the lawn chair plan was exactly what scout leaders recommended if you ever heard that missiles were on their way.

                @Lightfighter

                Sometimes when we were out at the beach many years ago we would see a nuclear submarine heading out to sea and we would look up and wave to the Soviet satellites.

                    @atomicbird Beats the Army training I got back in the 80's... If you see a flash, go prone with your ass to the blast. About as useful as the desk in school.

                      @Lightfighter

                      This is the real reason I became a truck driver. If apocalypse comes for me, I'm stealing a diesel tanker trailer and Mad Maxing this shit.

                        @Lightfighter I live less than 20 mi from a major nuclear power plant target. The way I see it, I am definitely within the blast radius if it gets hit. Meh.

                          @Lightfighter "I've planned ahead. We're just three miles from a primary target. A millisecond of brilliant light... and we're vaporized. Much more fortunate than the millions who wander sightless through the smoldering aftermath. We'll be spared the horror of survival." — Dr. Stephen Falken, "WarGames" (1983)

                          @theorangetheme @Lightfighter Yup, found the relevant quote I was looking for here. 😆 Also notable mention to @codinghorror for the other one. "I want to get somebody on the god damn phone before I kill 20 million people"
