    #bbclaurak asks Tice about the £5milion given to him by Harborne

    Tice "This was a personal gift"

    A few days ago #Farage said the money was given to him to hire bodyguards

    LK reminds him that before he became an MP, he did declare smaller gifts, like a trip to Belgium

    Tice is stuffed here

    She goes on

    "Are you sure it has all been spent on security? Are there any other incidents that have not been declared?

    Tice then adopts a populist, facist defence.
    "You keep on trying to smear us but the voters have looked at and they agreed with us against the establishment media saying they want more Reform"

    "Parliament has found 17 occasions where Nigel Farage has not followed the rules amounting to £380,000. This is not a smear. The question here is that Nigel Farage seems to have a habit of not following the rules very carefully when it comes to money"

    He can not answer this
    And does not answer this

      @Geri They should have started on this path a long while back, of publicly questioning Reform's backers and their motivations. It seems to have been left until they start having major success, which makes it look like sour grapes.

            @cmsdengl @Geri I believe recall petitions only apply to MP's & then only in specific circumstances

            A recall petition will take place if an MP is:

            -convicted of an offence in the UK and receives a custodial sentence
            -suspended from the House of Commons for 10 sitting days or 14 calendar days
            -convicted of providing false or misleading information for allowance claims under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009

            Voters can't start a recall petition the Speaker of the House has to do it

              @Geri This thread reads like an argument against representative democracy and an argument for participative democracy. If you're not sure what those last two words mean, though I'm sure you have an idea, here's a link which may help: https://antiparty.co.uk

                @staringatclouds @cmsdengl
                Quite right. A RP is only triggered if the MP:

                Receives a custodial prison sentence (less than 12 months).

                Is suspended from the House for at least 10 sitting days.

                Is convicted of providing false/misleading expense claims

                    @Geri @cmsdengl I'm not 100% sure on this but I think if any of the RP conditions are met, it's then up to the speaker of the house to tell the returning officer to start a petition

                    But the speaker doesn't have to do this

                    It doesn't make MPs any more accountable to the public

                    The recall of MPs act is singularly unfit for it's stated purpose

                    But it did shut the public up which was the real reason for it

                      @Geri @staringatclouds

                      I recall examples from the last Tory Parliament where MPs were suspended for more than 10 days, and faced a recall petition AND Their cases involved a lot less than £5m

                      Link Preview Image
                      Eight MPs who risked recall petitions after breaking Commons rules since 2019

                      Only two recall petitions have been held, with most MPs resigning before undergoing the process.

                        @staringatclouds @cmsdengl strictly speaking, the speaker has to notify the Petition Officer. This he MUST do
