If BBC’s reporting is correct, what we are seeing in Iran right now is the same playbook Israel used in Gaza.

@sayonaraminasan I don’t think that will play out that way for Israel. It will just mean they won’t know who to negotiate with when the non-stop terror attacks start.
@mcnado @sayonaraminasan I was thinking that yesterday. If you kill the whole upper echelon of the government in the place you have attacked, who will have the authority to surrender unconditionally? Imagine (...) that someone bombed the Knesset or the White House or Mar a Lago, who would surrender on behalf of Israel/US?

@ArchaeoIain Yep! Leadership has already been for the most part decentralized, there is no hydras head to decapitate so this was a non starter of a plan to begin with. Killing the supreme leader simply has turned him into a martyr for the believers and has more likely than not galvanized a sense of nationalism among the broader population in the very least, even those of non-persian identity. We can hope that the different ethnic groups don’t fall for the bait and realize they while they have their internal differences, that some level of unity is necessary in order to defeat the external threat that is Israeli-American imperialism.

If BBC’s reporting is correct, what we are seeing in Iran right now is the same playbook Israel used in Gaza. They aren’t sticking to military targets. They are targeting society, and the country’s culture and heritage. To what extent US targeting is following their lead is unclear, but hospitals, schools, historic landmarks, and civil infrastructure are being destroyed with the clear intent of collective punishment. It is abhorrent, heinous, and criminal.
@mcnado War criminals - no better than warlords with child armies - depose those devoid of humanity

@mcnado The Holocaust was abhotent. And still, we never should have given them nukes.

@mcnado won't hold my breath for them to state that conclusion though

@mcnado That was my reaction, too, when I was reading about what's happening in Tehran — it sounds like Gaza. Hospitals and residential neighborhoods are getting bombed. Food is scarce. How in hell does this align with any of rationales given for this starting this war?

@jeridansky damn that’s a horrible read and honestly if you didn’t know it could be read exactly like as if it was happening in Gaza or Iran. Nothing has changed. Frak.

@mcnado However with the Russians (and probably the Chinese) backing Iran, there will increasingly be a proxy war with the west - and particularly Europe. The west will starved of oil the lifeblood of economic activity.
Once the gulf states are destabilised due to their inability to rely on the income from oil and tourism their populations will revolt. This is likely to be a huge turning point in the world order which is exactly what Putin wants, and the Americans & Israelis are playing straight into his hands.
Gee, sure seems like the ones producing renewable (read, non-oil dependent) energy infrastructure and who have been rapidly de-carbonizing their economies will end up ahead....

@OneInterestingFact @mcnado Me, neither. The Hague Group, perhaps. I mean somebody has to do something to stop the US from killing people overseas.
