So, at Texas Tech, faculty can no longer teach based on their expertise but must follow censorship rules. Programs and courses are being canceled in order to enforce this censorship.

Also, research is being restricted: students admitted after April 10 can't research anything related to gender identity or sexual orientation. And we can't hire any faculty researching those topics either.

Texas Tech System leader cancels academic programs “centered on” sexual orientation, gender identity

Texas Tech University System’s chancellor on Friday ordered campuses to phase out academic programs “centered on” sexual orientation and gender identity — a dramatically expanded policy that also places limits on what can be researched and which faculty can be hired.

@shandyist I'm so sorry. Let us know if any outside pressure would help, though I imagine it will just make the Chancellor more convinced that he's right.

@shandyist (My aunt and cousin both went to Tech, and my grandfather was chair of English at A&M. This has really been getting to me...)

@pence thank you SO much. I think you’re right about the Chancellor, but at the same time I do think outside pressure is important… not so much to convince him as to apply pressure to the university.

@pence I know, for instance, that some donors are ending donations to TTU and A&M, which is another kind of pressure. Also, the Stop Campus Censorship site offers templates and other suggestions if you're so inclined.

Con Law 101 at Texas Tech must be interesting.

Here are the first three pages of the Chancellor's memo.
[I've had to condense the alt text because it's so long, apologies.]

Here are the last three pages, with the same apologies for the need to condense the alt text.
