Ok, that's the third time in 48 hours I've heard someone use the disgusting phrase "rule of thumb". Stop. Just stop that.

It amazes me that people still use this instead of "guideline" or some other neutral term. It does mean "a rough measurement" but a rough measurement of the size of stick a husband was allowed to beat his wife with.

On this day, of all days, be aware of what you're saying. It matters which words we all use.
